DEPARTMENT OF STUDENT SERVICES

Department of Student services is the heartbeat of ABM University College as it is the gate way and face of the university.  The department is comprised of vital Units regulating the students’ affairs within the College. Such Units include the following: Admissions Unit, Student health & Welfare Unit, Records unit and the Industry Attachments unit.

 

1. Admissions Unit

The admissions unit is core to the recruitment, selection and retention of students into the college. This unit ensures that successful candidates are registered and confirmed as ABM University college students.

Prospective students can download and send in their enquiries, application forms to Admissions at the contact addresses provided on the website. While continuing students can login into the student portal to check their student mail. We ensure that admission of all learners is done under a conducive educational and working environment which provides equality of access, opportunity, and freedom from discrimination of all learners on the grounds of; race, colour,  nationality, ethnic, origin, gender, marital status, disability, religious or political beliefs, age, social or economic background. All our processes are designed with the needs of the learner at the centre to ensure that we attract and retain our learners. We also build trust and confidence that goes beyond the school years through our robust alumni association.

Our policy is to admit all categories of students to academic programmes of study at ABM University College by ensuring equality of opportunity to all qualifying applicants.  Admission to ABM University College is done entirely on merit and on the basis of ability or competency to achieve.

 

2. Student Health & Welfare Unit

Student Health & Welfare Unit address things such as health and wellness, student welfare, student representative council, career guidance and counseling, sports and clubs. Importantly, this section also focuses on the needs of students with disabilities.

Student Welfare

The Student Welfare office is responsible for the general welfare of all students at ABM. It works harmoniously with all departments especially the academic department to assist students to achieve their academic goals and to adjust to the culture of the university. Its main purpose it to ensure that our students experiences a conducive living and learning environment.

Student Representative Council (SRC)

The SRC is a committee of student leaders elected by the students themselves. The SRC ensures that the student voice is heard when important decisions are made. Elections are held in the third week of September every year. The positions campaigned for are: the President, Vice President, Treasurer, general secretary, Minister of Sports, Minister of Education and Transformation, Minister of Community affairs and Development, Minister of Media and Publicity and two Additional members.

Counseling

Our students have access to various counseling services inside and outside campus. These include student counselor, career development counselor, career counseling officers, TE AIDS Counselor and Peer Education counselors. All these Counselors are available at our campuses and the student counselor is available for service 24hours, students have to call for enquiries at +267 71438949.

Sports & Recreation

ABM University College is committed to providing sports of all kinds to students as one of the initiatives that promote leisure, health and recreation to students.  The college has affiliated with sports bodies in Botswana such as BOTESSA and PTIA which annually hosts competitions of international standards for tertiary students.

Clubs on Campus

The SRC is home to over 20 clubs. There is no limit to the number of clubs a single student can join. Among the many benefits of joining SRC clubs are participating in entertaining events and programs; develop leadership skills, do community service and meeting and network with other students who share in their personal interests. Each of our clubs fall into one of the three different clubs councils: Academic, Entertainment, and Sports/Social clubs.

 

3. Records Unit

In this Unit, we keep a record of all students who are still with the college and those who have long completed their courses.  We ensure that every student file has the following information;
application form -filled, sponsorship letter, admission letter, copies of certificates, 2 passport size photos,  certified copy of National Identity Card (for citizens),  certified copies of first 3 pages of passport valid at least 12 months (non-citizens), residence and study permits – certified copies, copy of application fee receipt, registration confirmation form, copy of result slip/transcript, academic copy of certificate – certified.

 

4. Industry Attachment Unit

The Industry Liaison Office’s main aim is to establish and maintain relationships between ABM University College and other Organizations in the Private, Public, NGO and Parastatal Industries.

In achieving the above goal this unit brings coordination and monitoring of the Student Attachment Program. As part of the College curriculum, ALL students in their second year of study at ABM University College are expected to go on attachment as detailed in their Course Outline in order to gain Industry experience and to enable them to put into practice what they have learnt in class.

Molapo Crossing is worth a visit.Situated on the Western Bypass just next to the Molepolole interchange, this small centre has among other things, an excellent Pick n Pay (great for meat and fresh flowers among many other things), a pharmacy, health shop, outdoor activity outlet, several small boutiques stocking excellent leather accessories and quality outfits, video hire shop, a photo shop, Postnet, the only pet shop in Gabs, an art gallery and last but by no means least, Chilli Pepper – the one and only home industry and ‘almost antique’ furniture outlet in Gabs

Heading west along the Western Bypass towards Kgale Hill, the Westgate Shopping Centre is positioned just before the two Engen garages. Ithas a very large Choppies which stocks an impressive array of Indian spices and vegetables, in addition to its usual range of groceries andfoodstuffs. Chutney an excellent but unassuming Indian restaurant and a Chinese restaurant are situated in this centre, and the main branch of Pharmalulu is also located in this centre.
