ABM University College has a rich history of Human Resource Development. The institution was registered with the Ministry of Education in 1990 as a private tertiary education institution, making it one of Botswana’s oldest private tertiary education establishments.
To date, the institution has contributed immensely to the development of Human Resource in the country, having trained thousands of people employed in different positions in government, parastatals and private corporate bodies within various sectors of the economy while others are self employed.
ABM strives for academic excellence and is the place for those who seek an intellectually stimulating and inspiring environment that places great importance on life- long learning and self actualisation. ABM also prides itself in contributing towards the achievement of Botswana’s Vision 2016 pillar of building “An Educated and Informed Nation” through the delivery of relevant and enriched programmes in its quest for excellence. Over the years, ABM has formed strategic partnerships with several local and international bodies and institutions such as the Association of African Universities (AAU).
The Council is constituted by professionals from different areas of expertise; these are men and women of integrity and repute, who bring different expertise relevant to the business of the institution.
The Council is the principal policy making body of the institution. It is responsible for the general governance, supervision and control of the affairs of ABM. The powers to lay down the policies are vested in the institutions Council, which convenes its meetings four times a year. (Quarterly) The Council consists of standing committees namely Academic, Human Resource, Finance, Audit and Tender.
Mr. Gobona Tobedza is the ABM University College Council Chairperson. He is a director in a number of companies with interests in Information Technology, Tourism, Transport logistics and Insurance where he provides strategic direction and ensures stakeholder value maximization. He was previously the Finance Director with Botswana Railways.
In 1992 he graduated from the University of Botswana with a Bcom (Accounting). In 1997 he completed his studies with the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA) and is currently a fellow member. In 2004 he completed his Master’s Degree in Business Administration.
Ms. Mojadi Kwerepe holds a Masters Degree in Business Management and Administration from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa, a Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Policy from the University of London, United Kingdom and a Bachelors Degree in Economics from the University of Botswana.
Ms. Kwerepe has 25 years of experience in the banking sector having worked for Bank of Botswana since June 1991 and has held different managerial responsibilities within the bank. She has moved through the ranks of Bank of Botswana and in 2015 was appointed Senior Bank Examiner, Regulatory Policy Unit.
Ms. Kwerepe is a member of Botswana Institute of Bankers, Botswana Economics Society and Society for International Development (Botswana Chapter) amongst many others.
Ms. Kwerepe serves as the Council Deputy Chairperson.
Dr Ontiretse Tau holds a Doctoral Degree in Instructional Technology from Northern Illinois University, and MS in Adult Education from Florida State and a BA from the University of Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland. She joined the University of Botswana in 1987 as a Staff Development Fellow in the area of distance education in the Institute of Adult Education (IAE). Between 1991 and 1994 she single handily managed the work of the Distance Education Unit. Dr. Tau has acted as Director of the Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) on a few occasions and was Head of the Distance Education Unit 2005 – 2006 where upon she introduced a number of critical changes including re-engineering business processes for Distance Education provisions.
She served as the Distance Education Association of Southern Africa (DEASA) as treasurer. She was also the founding Chairperson of the most distinguished section of the association, the DEASA Research Committee from 2004 to 2009. From 2008 – 2010, Dr. Tau was External Regional Moderator (ERM) for the Commonwealth Youth Programme, Regional Centre for Africa (CYPRCA).
Dr. Tau has served as the Chairperson of the Academic Committee of Council since 2009.
Mrs. Kelebone Skelemani is an educationist whose career life in the public service spanned over three decades. After graduating from the University of Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland she started her career as an Assistant Principal in the Ministry of Education and moved through the ranks holding severable positions amongst these being Director of Teaching Service Management (TSM) and Director of Tirelo Sechaba.
Mrs. Skelemani held the position of Deputy Permanent Secretary in several ministries: Ministry of Works, Transport and Communications (1995 – 2001), Ministry of Trade and industry (2001 – 2002), Ministry of Health (2002 – 2004), and Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs (2004 – 2005). She retired from the public service in March 2005. Since retirement she has continued to serve the nation in various boards of directors including being the Chairperson of the Civil Aviation Authority Botswana (CAAB) between January 2006 and July 2008.
Mrs. Skelemani serves as a member of the Academic Committee of Council.
Mrs. Brenda Lloyd holds an MBA degree from De Montfort University, Leicester, and an MA Economics degree from the University of Botswana as well as a BSc Economics Honours Degree. Mrs. Lloyd completed the esteemed Global Leadership Development Programmes under full scholarship with the International Centre for Leadership in Finance (ICLIF) in Kaula Lumpar, Malaysia, Shanghai China and the United States of America.
She is the former CEO of the Botswana Institute of Bankers (BIOB) and was responsible for the provision of recognised banking qualifications for the industry and overall administration and control of the BIOB activities. Her wealth of experience in education and banking spans over two decades. She started as a commercial banker with Barclays Bank and has been actively involved in Botswana’s Banking and Education Sector is various capacities over the years. She also has broad knowledge and experience in managerial issues.
Mrs. Lloyd serves as the Chairperson of the Finance Committee of Council.
Mrs. Tiny Kgatlwane graduated from the University of Botswana in 1987 with a Bachelor of Commerce with majors in Accounting and Management; Tiny later on attained a Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) qualification.
Her first job was with Botswana Development Corporation as a Project Officer. Her career grew over the years, enabling her to reach the CEO status over a number of years. She has over 27 years of experience in the financial services industry with knowledge acquired while working at Standard Chartered, Bank of Botswana and Uganda, Barclays Bank of Botswana, Debswana Pension Fund and most recently Botswana Insurance Fund Management (BIFM), where she was Chief Executive Officer for a number of years.
Currently she is the Executive Director for First Sun Alliance Insurance Brokers. She has sat in over fifteen boards of directors within the African region and brings to ABM University College extensive experience.
Mrs. Kgatlwane serves as a member of the Finance Committee of Council.
Mr. Solly Reikeletseng is the Founder and Managing Director of Itekanele Health Scheme and currently sits in various boards including as Chairman of Botswana National Sports Commission. He is an entrepreneur with business interests in health, logistics, and entertainment and information technology.
Mr. Reikeletseng serves as a member of the Finance Committee of Council.
Mr. Simon Meti is the Chief Executive Officer for Botswana Horticultural Market. He has worked as the Human Resource Manager at Botswana Development Corporation (BDC) for over 20 years until 2012. He has also previously worked at the Department of Labour and Social Security starting as a Labour Assistant, rising through the ranks to become Head of Law Enforcement, Research, Information and Statistics and Head of International Affairs and Industrial Relations.
His experience in this field coupled with unparalleled zeal for enhancement of human relations and development at the work place cannot be questioned. Not only is he a qualified labour management relations expert, he has also accumulated a wealth of experience in sorting out labour disputes over the years. Labour experts countrywide unanimously recognise him as a doyen of HR management and development in Botswana.
Mr. Meti holds a Master of Public Administration in Labour Management Relations from the University of Southern California in the United States of America (USA). He has also attended short courses in the following fields: manpower studies at the Victoria University of Manchester, Advanced Labour Administration, Oxford, UK, and National Labour Standards in Nairobi, Kenya among others.
Mr. Meti serves as the Human Resource Committee of Council Chairperson.
Mr. Ditlhabi holds a BSc in Occupational Psychology, MA in Industrial Psychology, Trainer Diploma, and is a member of a number of professional bodies/associations.
Mr. Bernard Ditlhabi is a qualified HR professional with extensive experience in various aspects of human resources practice, including performance management, talent management, education, organisational effectiveness, systems development and implementation, policy development, labour relations and communication. As a member of the executive team in private sector organisations for several years, he has gained broad knowledge and experience of management issues. Since leaving the corporate world in 2007, he has been running a human resource consultancy, LeadEX Consulting, which has special interest in organisational transformation, strategic planning, talent management and performance management.
Mr. Ditlhabi serves as a member of the Human Resource Committee of Council.
Mrs. Masego Makgoro holds an Msc in Analysis, Design and Management of Information Systems from London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), London, England, and a Bachelor of Commerce (Management) from the University of Botswana.
She is the current Head of Human Resource at National Development Bank (NDB). She has previously worked as the Human Resource Services Manager at BCL as well as the Head of Human Resources at Stanbic Bank Botswana amongst other organisations.
She is a member of Institute of Human Resources Management (IHRM), Botswana, Institute of People Management (IPM), RSA, Chartered Institute of Secretaries (CIS), RSA.
Mrs. Makgoro serves as a member of the Human Resource Committee of Council.
Mr. Jowitt Mbongwe holds a Master of Social Sciences (MSocSci.) from the University of Leicester, Masters in Economic and Social Development (MA (Econ.) from University of Manchester, Post Graduate Diploma in Development Management from University of Manchester, Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Development from University of Wolverhampton, Certificate in Training and Development from Industrial Society (UK) and a BA Degree from the University of Botswana and Swaziland.
Mr. Mbongwe’s career spans over 33 years and currently he is the Managing Director of Global Consult and Global School of Management, having previously worked as a Principal Consultant for Institute of Development Management (IDM) from 1994 – 2001. Over the years Mr. Mbongwe has undertaken a number of major consulting projects in the areas of HR, Strategy and Organisational Development for organisations in different sectors of the economy in Botswana, Namibia and South Africa. He currently sits in the Board of Directors of two parastatal organisations.
Mr. Mbongwe serves as a member of the Human Resource Committee of Council.
Ms. Bekezela Mbakile holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics & Statistics from the University of Botswana, and an MSc Economics (Labour & International Economics) from University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign at Illinois – United States of America (USA). She has also attended short courses in her field of work at various institutions in Africa, USA and the United Kingdom. She has worked for Debswana for over 16 years in the Human Resources Department – Wellness Unit – charged largely with the responsibility of Programme Monitoring & Evaluation.
Before joining Debswana, she worked for the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning as a Manpower Planning Economist in the said Ministry’s Employment Policy Unit.
Ms. Mbakile serves as the Chairperson of the Tender Committee of Council.
Mr. Tinashe Balili Chilume holds a Bachelor of Science in Quantity Surveying from the London South Bank University, United Kingdom. He is a member of the Institute of Botswana Quantity Surveyors and the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS Candidate)
He has worked for Katz Holdings Contractors as a Quantity Surveyor and currently he is with Akanyang Skinner Associates as an Associate Quantity Surveyor. He has vast experience in tendering and ensuring compliance with best practices.
Mr. Chilume serves as a member of the Tender Committee of Council.
Mr. Cross Kgosidiile holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) from the University of Botswana. He is a fellow member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA).
From 2005 – 2016 he was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Motor Vehicle Accident Fund. He also served as the Finance Manager at Air Botswana for seven years. His areas of expertise include strategic leadership, accounting & finance and administration and fund management.
He is a board member of Botswana Building Society, Botswana Railways, KYS Investments Limited and Prime Time Property Holdings to name a few.
Mr. Kgosidiile serves as a member of the Tender Committee of Council.
Mrs. Talita Monnaakgotla holds a National Diploma in Laboratory Technology from the National Health Institute, Gaborone.
Currently Mrs. Monnaakgotla is the Managing Director of AT & T Monnaakgotla Transport. The company undertakes travel & tours with a focus on flights and road travel. The company also coordinates tours & safaris and offers shuttle and car services rental services.
Having been in the industry for over 17 years, AT & T Monnakgotla Travel has become a force to reckon with, boasting a large fleet of buses that travel across Botswana and SADC countries.
Mrs. Monnaakgotla serves as a member of the Tender Committee of Council.
Mr. Buzwani Manyepedza holds an MBA from the University of Derby, UK and undertaken a Chartered Certified Accountant with ACCA and Accounting Technician. He has the Senior Management Development Programme (SMDP) from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa.
Mr. Manyepedza is the Managing Director of Lere Pioneers (Pty) Ltd. He was previously the General Manager of Lobatse Clay Works, a position he held for six years after having been with the organisation since 2007.
Mr. Manyepedza serves as the Chairperson of the Audit Committee of Council.
Mr. Jerry M.C. Rammipi holds a High National Diploma in Accounting and Business Studies and a Diploma in Accounting and Business Studies from the University of Botswana. He is a member of Botswana Institute of Accountants (Technician).
Mr. Rammipi is the Principal Auditor at the Botswana Auditor General and he heads the section responsible for auditing the State President, National Assembly and the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development. His areas of expertise include auditing, budgeting, financial management and financial reporting.
Over the years he has served in boards of Botswana Public Officers Pension Fund (BOPMAS), Letshego Financial Services, and Bokamoso Private Hospital.
Mr. Rammipi serves as a member of the Audit Committee of Council.
Mrs. Tshiamo Moswela holds a BS Accounting from Goldey Beacom College, Wilmington, Delaware, USA.
With a career that has spanned over 37 years, she is the current Financial Manager of Pyramid Holdings (Pty) Ltd. She has previously worked as a consultant for Tom Pipper and Associates, Murray and Roberts Construction and Deloitte & Touche.
Mrs. Moswela has served in boards of Murray & Roberts Botswana, Botswana Railways, Imara Asset Management (PTY) Limited Botswana. She was the treasurer for Women in Business Association (WIBA) from 2008 – 2012.
Mrs. Moswela serves as a member of the Audit Committee of Council.
